A positive effect that makes a character stronger, or a patch change that strengthens something.

In play, a buff is a temporary effect that improves a character, such as increased speed or damage. In balance discussions, "buffing" a weapon or character means a developer made it stronger in an update.

Example
The latest patch buffed the shotgun, so it is everywhere in ranked matches now.
